Zimbabwe scripted a thrilling three-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the first Test at Sylhet, registering their highest-ever successful run chase in the fourth innings of a Test. With this, Zimbabwe takes a 1-0 lead in the two-match series and secures their fourth overseas Test win — interestingly, their last also came in Sylhet in 2018.

After being set a target of 174 runs, Zimbabwe found themselves in a tough spot despite being in control for most of the innings. Mehidy Hasan Miraz spun a web around the visitors, completing figures of 5 for 50 and achieving his 200th Test wicket milestone. He ended the match with a ten-wicket haul (10-102).

However, Zimbabwe found heroes in Wessly Madhevere, who held his nerve with a calm innings, and Richard Ngarava, who supported him with grit from the other end. Madhevere’s reverse-sweep boundary off Mehidy sealed the win for Zimbabwe in dramatic fashion.

Earlier, Blessing Muzarabani was the chief destroyer for Zimbabwe with match figures of 9 for 122, including a fiery 6 for 72 in the second innings, dismantling Bangladesh's middle and lower order. Bangladesh managed 191 in their first innings and posted 255 in the second, thanks to solid knocks by Najmul Hossain Shanto (60), Jaker Ali (58), and Mominul Haque (47).

In reply, Zimbabwe had made 273 in the first innings with Sean Williams (59) and Clive Madande (57) contributing significantly. Mehidy had earlier taken 5 for 52 in the first innings.

The victory marks a strong comeback for Zimbabwe in red-ball cricket and builds anticipation for the final Test of the series.
