The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to officially confirm the venues for the IPL 2025 playoffs and final, but Cricbuzz reports that Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium is the frontrunner to host Qualifier 2 and the grand final, slated for June 1 and June 3 respectively.
The delay in the venue announcement is primarily due to weather uncertainties. The board is monitoring the monsoon’s progress before locking in the schedule. At present, early June in Ahmedabad is expected to remain dry, making it a strong candidate for the key fixtures.
For Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator, Mumbai is a likely option, but its recent heavy rainfall and persistent overcast skies have made the BCCI cautious. If weather conditions improve or North Indian cities like Delhi, Jaipur, or Lucknow are forecasted to stay dry, one of them could be selected instead.
Logistical convenience is a major factor in the BCCI's decision-making. The board is unlikely to move the IPL to a city outside the six already selected for the 17 remaining league matches: Mumbai, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Jaipur, and one unnamed city. Shifting equipment and infrastructure to a new city is a massive undertaking and deemed impractical.
This is also why venues such as Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Mohali were not chosen—either due to operational challenges or weather concerns. For instance, CSK and SRH had only one home game each, which has now been shifted to Delhi. Punjab Kings, originally scheduled to play in Mohali and Dharamsala, will now play their remaining home games in Jaipur due to border tensions and easier logistics.
Mumbai remains a special case, with broadcast infrastructure still stationed at Wankhede Stadium since May 6. This has made it easier to consider the city for hosting playoff matches.
The IPL resumes on May 17, featuring 17 matches across six cities. Jaipur, benefiting from the Punjab Kings’ venue shift, will now host three matches. With weather being the key variable, the final confirmation from the BCCI is expected soon.
