The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is all set to resume on Saturday, May 17, with Royal Challengers Bengaluru facing Kolkata Knight Riders in Bengaluru, the BCCI confirmed on Monday, May 12. A total of 17 matches will be played across six venues, with the grand final scheduled for June 3. The venues for the playoffs — Qualifier 1, Eliminator, and Qualifier 2 — are yet to be announced.
According to a BCCI statement, the decision to continue the tournament was made after thorough discussions with government authorities, security agencies, and other key stakeholders.
Revised IPL 2025 Schedule Highlights:
The tournament resumes with RCB vs KKR on May 17 in Bengaluru.
Two double-headers are scheduled on Sundays: May 18 and May 25.
Qualifier 1 is set for May 29, Eliminator for May 30, and Qualifier 2 for June 1.
The final will take place on June 3, with the venue to be confirmed.
Despite early speculation about completing the remainder of the tournament in southern cities like Chennai and Hyderabad, the BCCI has finalized Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi, Jaipur, Lucknow, and Ahmedabad as the six host cities. As a result, franchises like CSK, SRH, and PBKS will not be playing at their original home grounds.
CSK’s final home game against Rajasthan Royals and SRH’s last home match against KKR will both be held in Delhi. Punjab Kings will play all three of their remaining matches in Jaipur, including a replay of their earlier abandoned match against Delhi Capitals on May 24.
Mumbai Indians, still in contention for the playoffs, will play their final league game at the Wankhede Stadium against Delhi Capitals on May 21.
The tournament was briefly suspended after a match in Dharamsala was cancelled due to rising border tensions. The suspension allowed the board to reassess the situation and adjust the schedule and venues. Meanwhile, some overseas players have departed due to international duties, and it remains uncertain how many will return, especially with the World Test Championship Final set to begin on June 11 — just days after the IPL wraps up.
The revised phase of IPL 2025 promises high-stakes action, even as fans await the BCCI’s final word on playoff venues.
