Cameron Green is all set for a return to Test cricket after being named in Australia’s 15-member squad for the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) Final at Lord’s next month and the subsequent tour of the West Indies. The squad, announced by Cricket Australia on Tuesday (May 13), also sees the comeback of skipper Pat Cummins and pacer Josh Hazlewood.

Green, who last played a Test in March 2024, has recovered from a back injury. Both Cummins and Hazlewood missed the recent Champions Trophy due to injuries but featured in the IPL 2025. Hazlewood, however, sat out Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s last game due to a shoulder concern, with doubts over his next appearance before the IPL was suspended.

Brendan Doggett, fresh off a Player of the Match performance in the Sheffield Shield final, has been named as the only travelling reserve.

The rest of the squad remains largely unchanged from the team that secured Test series wins over Sri Lanka (2-0) and India (3-1) last season.

Chair of selectors George Bailey expressed optimism: “We’re fortunate to welcome back Pat, Josh, and Cam. After strong wins in Sri Lanka and against India, we’re excited by the opportunity to defend the WTC title. The team is eager to face South Africa at Lord’s.”

Beau Webster keeps his spot as an allrounder, while young batter Sam Konstas returns after missing part of the Sri Lanka tour for domestic duties. Spinner Matthew Kuhnemann has been picked over Todd Murphy and is expected to play a larger role during the West Indies series, starting June 25.

Australia aims to become the first team to retain the WTC title.
