Mehidy Hasan Miraz Confident in Bangladesh’s Transition Phase, Eyes 2027 World Cup Success

Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz has expressed confidence in his team’s ability to manage the ongoing transition period following the retirement of key senior players.

With seasoned cricketers like Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmud Ullah, and Tamim Iqbal recently stepping away from white-ball cricket, Mehidy believes the squad still possesses enough experience to maintain stability.

“Currently, there are six to seven players who have been playing international cricket for 7-10 years. They can’t be considered new anymore,” Mehidy stated while addressing the media at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on March 15.

Following Bangladesh's early exit from the Champions Trophy 2025, where they ended their campaign with two losses and a washout in the group stage, Mehidy stressed the importance of long-term planning for the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup.

“It’s crucial to begin preparations now. If we start building the squad just a few months before the World Cup, it will be very difficult,” he emphasized.

Mehidy called for consistency in team selection and strategic planning to ensure Bangladesh achieves sustainable success.

"Senior players like Mushfiqur bhai (Rahim) built a strong foundation for Bangladesh cricket over the past decade. Now it's our responsibility to build on that legacy and take the team to new heights," he added.

With two to two-and-a-half years remaining until the 2027 World Cup, Mehidy believes investing in preparation now will be key to Bangladesh's growth on the global stage.
