Tamim Iqbal’s Condition Improving, But Critical Period Remains

Former Bangladesh cricket captain Tamim Iqbal is showing signs of recovery after suffering a cardiac arrest on Monday during a Dhaka Premier League match between Mohammedan Sporting Club and Shine Pukur at the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan (BKSP) in Savar.

Tamim was swiftly transported to KPJ Specialized Hospital, where he underwent an emergency angiogram to address a blockage in one of his heart arteries.

Health Directorate Director General Professor Abu Jafar provided an update on Tuesday, stating, “Tamim’s condition is improving, and he has started walking a little. However, the next 48 to 72 hours remain critical. He must wait at least three months before resuming normal activities, including sports.”

Doctors Stress Need for Monitoring

Professor Abdul Wadud, director of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases, confirmed that an echocardiogram conducted on Wednesday morning showed promising results.

“His heart function appears normal, but we must remain cautious. Abnormal rhythms could still occur,” said Wadud. “We have advised against immediate movement. While Tamim’s condition has improved, a sudden deterioration cannot be ruled out.”

Tamim’s family is considering their next steps based on medical advice. “His family will make the final decision, but we have strongly advised against any premature movements,” Jafar added.

Tamim Expresses Gratitude to Fans

Meanwhile, Tamim took to Facebook to thank his supporters, acknowledging the fragility of life and the importance of kindness.

“We live due to heartbeat, but this heartbeat can stop without any announcement, and we tend to forget that often,” Tamim wrote.

“By the grace of Allah and blessings of everyone, I returned and am fortunate to have had good people by my side during this crisis. Some incidents make us realize how small life is. In this short life, everyone should stand by each other. That is my little request.”

Tamim concluded by asking fans to keep him and his family in their prayers. “Without your love,

Tamim Iqbal is no one.”
