In a remarkable display of skill and composure, Jake Lehmann scored a crucial 126 runs for South Australia (SA) during the Sheffield Shield final against Queensland at Karen Rolton Oval in Adelaide. His innings significantly bolstered SA's position as they aim for their first Shield victory in 29 years.

Resuming the second day at 42 not out, Lehmann showcased his batting prowess by reaching his third consecutive century in as many Shield matches. His 132-ball hundred included a series of well-executed shots, culminating in a cut off Marnus Labuschagne to bring up the milestone. Lehmann's partnership with Nathan McAndrew, who contributed 39 runs, added 85 vital runs to the team's total.

The significance of Lehmann's performance is heightened by the historical context; his father, Darren Lehmann, led SA to their last Shield triumph in 1996. Photographs from that era capture a young Jake seated on his father's knee, celebrating the victory—a scene that could be reprised should SA capitalize on their current advantageous position.

Earlier in the match, SA's bowlers dominated by dismissing Queensland for just 95 runs, the third-lowest total by any team when batting first in a Sheffield Shield final. This commanding performance set the stage for Lehmann's impactful innings, which concluded just before lunch on day two when he was caught by Ben McDermott off the bowling of Mark Steketee.

As the final progresses, SA's strong position, underpinned by Lehmann's century, brings them closer to breaking their nearly three-decade-long Sheffield Shield title drought.
