Ahead of the crucial ICC Champions Trophy 2025 group-stage clash between India and New Zealand in Dubai, the Kiwis have intensified their preparations for the high-stakes encounter scheduled for Sunday.

With Dubai’s pitches traditionally favoring spinners, New Zealand’s middle-order batters Tom Latham and Michael Bracewell have reportedly roped in local left-arm wrist spinners to counter India’s premier spin threat, Kuldeep Yadav. As per the Press Trust of India (PTI), 15-year-old Ishan Rajesh and UAE national team hopeful Nilansh Keshwani were called up to assist New Zealand in their practice sessions.

New Zealand Prepares for India’s Spin Test

New Zealand all-rounder Glenn Phillips acknowledged the spin-friendly nature of the Dubai International Cricket Stadium (DICS) pitch. "It’s playing a bit slow with considerable turn. India has three quality spinners, so it’s all about strike rotation and taking the game deep," he remarked during the pre-match press conference.

Kuldeep Yadav has been India’s key wicket-taker, particularly in the middle overs, and will likely play a pivotal role in dismantling the Kiwi batting lineup. With both teams remaining unbeaten in the tournament, a win here would not only secure the top spot in Group A but also decide their semi-final opponents—Australia for the winner and South Africa for the runner-up.

India Seeks to Overcome ICC Tournament Jinx Against New Zealand

Historically, India has struggled against New Zealand in ICC tournaments, and Rohit Sharma’s men will be eager to break this trend with another commanding performance. Notably, key Kiwi players like Kane Williamson, Kyle Jamieson, and Will O’Rourke missed their light practice session at the ICC Academy.

Both India and New Zealand have dominated the tournament so far, defeating Pakistan and Bangladesh convincingly. As the cricketing giants gear up for a high-voltage clash, fans can expect an intense battle with a semi-final spot on the line.
