Jamie Overton is poised to make his Test comeback nearly three years after his debut against New Zealand at Headingley in June 2022. The 31-year-old fast bowler has been named in England’s 14-member squad for the first Test against India, scheduled to begin on June 20 at Headingley, Leeds.

However, Overton’s participation remains uncertain as he is recovering from a broken little finger sustained during the first ODI against the West Indies on May 29. The England medical team is monitoring his fitness daily.

Also returning to the squad are Brydon Carse and Warwickshire duo Jacob Bethell and Chris Woakes. All three last featured in England’s Test tour of New Zealand in December but missed the recent victory over Zimbabwe due to minor injuries.

Gus Atkinson has been ruled out of selection due to a hamstring injury picked up during the Zimbabwe Test at Trent Bridge. The rest of the squad follows expected selections, with Ben Stokes leading the side.
