Virat Kohli is one of India's most celebrated cricketers, admired for his passion and skill. However, a section of his fanbase often crosses the line, engaging in toxic behavior that tarnishes the sport’s spirit.
Recently, after New Zealand's Glenn Phillips dismissed Kohli in a match, some of Kohli’s fans took to social media in outrage. Instead of appreciating the competitive nature of cricket, they resorted to abusive comments. However, in their blind rage, they mistakenly targeted the official Instagram page of Philips, the electronics brand, rather than Glenn Phillips himself.
This isn’t an isolated incident. In the past, New Zealand’s Kyle Jamieson faced similar harassment after dismissing Kohli in the 2021 World Test Championship (WTC) Final. Shockingly, some so-called fans even directed vile threats towards Jamieson’s family, exposing a darker side of sports fanaticism.
Social Media Outrage Glenn Phillips Faces Unwarranted Hate from Kohli Fans
While Kohli himself has been a victim of online abuse, it's important to remember that such behavior does not represent true cricketing spirit. Passion for a player or team should never translate into hate towards others. Before posting harmful comments, fans should pause and reflect—would they accept such treatment if it were directed at them?
Cricket is a gentleman’s game, and true fans support their players with dignity and respect. The need of the hour is to promote sportsmanship over toxicity.
