Sunrisers Hyderabad head coach Daniel Vettori admitted that their aggressive powerplay approach backfired badly in their sixth defeat of IPL 2025, this time against the Mumbai Indians.
“Obviously, the toss was crucial. The pitch was different from previous games, and we couldn’t assess it properly. We thought it was a 250+ wicket, but once we started losing early wickets, it became clear it wasn’t,” said Vettori in the post-match presentation.
SRH were rocked early by the new-ball brilliance of Deepak Chahar and Trent Boult, slumping to 13 for 4 within five overs. They eventually crawled to 143/8, thanks to a resilient 99-run stand between Heinrich Klaasen and Abhinav Manohar.
“When Travis and Abhi go hard and it works, it sets up the game for us. But when they fall early, others need to step up — and that hasn’t happened enough this season,” Vettori added.
Despite the loss, Vettori remains hopeful. “We’ve seen teams like RCB bounce back after slow starts. It only takes one game to shift the momentum, and we believe we can still make that turnaround.”
