Sehwag’s Scathing Attack on Jadeja and CSK’s Faltering Campaign

Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag didn’t hold back while dissecting Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) lackluster performance in their IPL 2025 clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 25, 2025. SRH chased down CSK’s 154 with 5 wickets to spare, thanks to a gritty 50-run stand between Nitish Reddy and Kamindu Mendis, keeping their playoff hopes alive. CSK, however, are virtually out of the race, languishing at the bottom with just 4 points from 9 games.

Sehwag, speaking on Cricbuzz, targeted Ravindra Jadeja’s “useless” strike rate of 128.18 this season, despite his promotion to No. 4. Jadeja scored 21 off 17 before falling to Mendis’ spin, a recurring weakness exposed this IPL. “Jadeja should’ve stayed till the 15th or 18th over to anchor the innings, letting others play freely,” Sehwag remarked, questioning CSK’s strategy. He also criticized the decision to send Sam Curran at No. 3, suggesting Dewald Brevis, who smashed 42 off 25 on debut, was better suited. “Brevis at No. 3, followed by Dube, Jadeja, and Curran—that’s the order CSK needed,” he added.

CSK’s innings started brightly with Ayush Mhatre’s 30 off 19, but Mohammed Shami’s first-ball wicket and Harshal Patel’s 4/28 triggered a collapse. Brevis’ lone fight couldn’t salvage the total, and SRH’s Ishan Kishan (44) set the tone for the chase. With CSK’s batters struggling and Jadeja’s spin woes glaring, Sehwag’s words echo the fans’ frustration: is CSK just waiting for IPL 2025 to end?
