The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) deeply mourns the passing of former Indian all-rounder, Shri Syed Abid Ali, who passed away on March 12, 2025. A prominent figure in Indian cricket during the 1960s and 70s, Syed Abid Ali's versatile skills made him a vital part of the team.
Syed Abid Ali played 29 Test matches and 5 One Day Internationals for India, showcasing his remarkable abilities as an all-rounder. His outstanding performances played a crucial role in India's historic Test series wins against England and the West Indies in 1971. Renowned for his sharp fielding, effective bowling, and reliable batting, Syed Abid Ali's contributions will be remembered fondly.
Expressing his condolences, Mr. Roger Binny, President of the BCCI, stated: “Shri Syed Abid Ali was a remarkable cricketer who displayed immense dedication and skill. His pivotal role in India's memorable victories in the 1970s will be etched in cricket history. My heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones during this sorrowful period."
